About the Role

The Radiologic Technologist performs radiology procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury, following established protocols under the general supervision of a Radiologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high-quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
  • Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrates understanding of radiation dose reference levels, monitoring, and actions to take if dose exceeds set levels, including patient follow-up.
  • Uses AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) when communicating with patients to identify service requirements and establish rapport.
  • Instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding procedures and assesses patient ability to tolerate the exam.
  • Prepares patients and equipment for procedures by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, and setting exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies and protocols.
  • Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards.
  • Collaborates with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment.
  • Reports issues to management or appropriate departments and assists in maintaining supplies inventory.
  • Screens individuals for safety before allowing entry into the department according to approved policies.
  • Obtains, verifies, and maintains relevant documentation such as requisitions, patient history, consent forms, and policies.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in the appropriate system according to department policies and standards.
  • Provides services in a timely, accurate, and cost-efficient manner in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Performs tasks independently without routine oversight and maintains a calm, helpful attitude under stress.
  • Administers first aid and uses emergency cart when necessary.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, and reviewing patient satisfaction scores.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills for care across age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric.
  • Serves as a preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services.
  • Takes call if required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Certification/Licensure/Registration:
    • ARRT-R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Radiography).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
    • Licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
