About the role

THIS POSITION IS REPRESENTED BY LOCAL 799c INTERNATIONAL CHEMICAL WORKERS UNION COUNCIL BARGAINING UNIT.

The Technician 1 classification requires that an employee shall be able to perform all of the duties prescribed for all Utility Classification employees and in addition shall be capable of regularly engaged in doing some or all of the following described work:

  • Fitting work on a service construction or repair crews, driving needle bars, making detector tests, Miss Dig staking, inspecting meter manifolds and inside service piping for leaks and other work incidental to survey activities, executing all leak orders, executing meter orders.
  • Operation of a trencher, a tractor compressor or other types of mechanical equipment, installing and making adjustments on domestic and commercial appliances (and installing and making minor adjustments on space heating units).
  • Installing range lines, service regulators, and small meter manifolds, changing service regulators and clearing services of stoppages, installing hot water heaters, gas grills, gas lights, gas fireplace logs, fuel lines, conversion work and assisting technicians of a higher classification on all types of work to the extent of the employee’s ability.
  • Leading not more than three (3) employees during construction survey, concrete or cement finishing, or repair work, making tie-ins on all distribution system mains, installing gauges, installing and maintaining street regulators and executing leak complaints.
  • Keeping accurate records of new construction and repair work, making new main and service investigations and simple drawings, operating and making minor adjustments and performing servicing operations on trenching or other types of mechanical equipment.
  • Bracing and barricading trenches safely, protecting the public and those employed on the job.
  • Making all adjustments on space heating units, making all adjustments on the gas portion of gas-fired air conditioning units, making minor adjustments on industrial equipment and doing all meter manifold work.

This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and customer service skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (eight points or less).
  • Must pass the DOT Drug Test, DOT Physical, and respirator fit test.
  • Must pass the required testing and training.
  • Must complete a Background Check.
  • Must successfully pass all pre-employment assessment(s).
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid operators and Group A Commercial Driver’s License (CDLA) with Air Brake Endorsement. If successful candidate(s) does not already possess a valid CDL A, the candidate(s) will be required to obtain a Temporary Permit (TIP) during the pre-hire steps.
  • Must be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Must be willing and able to accept odd shifts, on-call, emergency assignments and work overtime per the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing approximately 95lbs (jackhammer).
  • Must be able to climb in and out of excavation holes.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to use a variety of hand tools requiring upper body forces up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Natural Gas Operations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, pipeline safety regulations.
  • Excavation or construction experience.
  • HVAC experience or certification.
  • Customer Service Experience.

Pay

$24.00/hr - $47.88/hr

Testing Required: Gas Test
