Technician Production Manager
About the role
As a Technician Production Manager in Training, you’ll embark on a structured development program designed to prepare you for success as a Technician Production Manager. This role equips you with the tools, knowledge, and leadership skills needed to manage production operations effectively. You’ll play a critical part in ensuring efficient vehicle reconditioning and team performance within our Service Operations department—a team committed to operational excellence and delivering best-in-class customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper staffing across technician positions to maintain smooth operations.
- Manage vehicle flow through the reconditioning process.
- Achieve production targets for mechanical work zones while maintaining CarMax quality standards.
- Monitor technician billed hours per unit to meet company benchmarks.
- Oversee mechanical inspection approvals and prioritize vehicles using CarMax internal systems.
- Drive associate engagement through Associate Care and Communication (AC&C) tools such as round tables and one-on-ones, and lead performance management feedback sessions and development plans
- Responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) program for your department and/or location, including but not limited to self-inspections, hazardous waste disposal, workplace safety, and PPE.
Requirements
- Ability to read, interpret, and maintain accurate data records for production processes.
- Completion of CarMax-provided training across all production areas.
- Strong multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
- May require walking or standing for an extended period of time.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with associates and customers across departments.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for operational tasks.
Qualifications
1 year of experience as a Manager or Automotive Technician preferred.
Pay
The Annual Salary For This Position Is $54,500.00 - $95,500.00 May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time. Associates That Are Considered Full-time Hourly Or Commission/incentive Eligible To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
