The Technician III, Lead utilizes proficiency of skills, equipment knowledge, and primarily self-direction to perform work on assigned wind turbines with minimal to no supervision. This role modifies procedures and plans, including safety protocols, turbine service, and installation processes, and takes appropriate action from general direction to develop and implement robust action plans based on performance analysis and issue diagnosis of wind plant equipment.

About the role

The Service Technician role maintains and troubleshoots complex hydraulic and electrical controls circuits to keep wind turbines operational. The customer relies on our safe work practices, technical acumen, teamwork, leadership, and fiscal stewardship to maintain turbines in optimal condition for power generation at the lowest overall cost.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain wind turbines to keep communities powered.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, perform safety inspections, and cultivate a culture of safety.
  • Collaborate with your team to improve turbine performance, share best practices, and support change initiatives.
  • Document work thoroughly and propose improvements to work instructions and operational processes.
  • Support specialty projects (e.g., crane work, CIM) and provide mentorship to junior technicians.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of wind experience, including work with heavy equipment and cranes.
  • Task Based Certification (TBC) Level 300 or willingness to obtain.
  • Highly developed problem-solving abilities and an engaged approach to responsibilities.
  • Safety-conscious with advanced knowledge of energy isolation and risk mitigation.
  • A collaborative team player who mentors others and leads by example.
  • Ability to speak, read, and follow instructions in English.
  • Physically fit, comfortable working at heights and in varying conditions.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent), valid driver’s license, and legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Skills

  • Proficient in modifying and improving turbine service and installation processes.
  • Advanced technical direction and mentorship for lower-level technicians.
  • Expertise in handling complex technical issues and customer inquiries independently.
  • Recognized as a multi-platform generalist or platform technical specialist.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $33.65–$41.65 per hour, with potential for additional variable compensation. Pay is determined based on experience and qualifications. A one-time sign-on bonus of $2,500 USD (or $3,300 CAD) is available for eligible candidates with GWO certifications (BST, BTT, ART). Eligibility requirements apply.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing ability to use telephones and radios.
  • Visual acuity, including depth perception, field of vision, and color distinction.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, with hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to climb stairs and vertical ladders to heights of 60–100 meters, including confined space work.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to observe training and obtain certifications in LOTO, Electrical Qualification, Fall Arrest & High Angle Rescue, and Confined Space.
  • Combined weight of employee, PPE, and gear must not exceed 300 lbs (PPE and gear may weigh up to 40 lbs).
