Description

Under general supervision, performs responsible and varied technical work that permits some choice of procedures and some independence of actions in the disposition of routine matters as it relates to ensuring the cleanliness of buildings, grounds and general building maintenance.

  • Maintains buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure cleanliness.
  • Repairs, inspects, shampoos, replaces, and cleans contents and fixtures of the buildings as assigned; reports any building deficiencies found during shift to supervisor.
  • Cleans office, classroom, and common space furniture; assists with college event setups.
  • Assists with snow removal of all sidewalks and entryways at offsite campuses, including the operation of motorized equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of all equipment associated with the operation of offsite campuses, including filter changes, toilet repairs, and building lighting maintenance and repair.
  • Mows, seeds, weeds, edges, and provides other care to all offsite campuses.
  • Maintains trees and shrubs by watering, fertilizing, and pruning as necessary.
  • Conserves energy by turning off lights in unoccupied rooms.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a back-up to other staff members, as needed.
  • Aids new employees and coordinates the activities of as-needed and student workers.
  • Delivers intra-campus mail and assists with campus security.
  • Serves as a member of the emergency response team.
  • Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis.

Appropriate protective devices are available as required.

  • Assists with the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position.
  • Makes sure that the statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees and students.
  • Maintains the safety and condition of the College’s buildings and grounds.
  • Safeguards the College’s real and personal property.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions required.
  • At least one to three years of commercial or institutional custodial experience required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without an accommodation; ability to climb ladders and to move stage platforms and chairs, etc. required.
  • Ability to pass a physical exam if offered the position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills desirable.
  • Proficiency in English desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Supplemental Information

  • Ranger of pay: $16.53/hr. min. - $18.18/hr. 1st quartile - $19.84/hr. mid.
