Technician, Field IV

About the role

Based inside an automotive repair shop, the Field Technician performs diagnostic scans and calibrations, assists with virtual diagnostic scans and calibrations, and consults with shops to promote diagnostic and calibration services.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary client contact within the service process
• Promote the necessity for diagnostic and calibrations at assigned shops
• Perform precise calibrations for all types of Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) across most vehicle makes and models
• Utilize various OEM and diagnostic tools to make effective repair and calibration recommendations
• Perform pre- and post-vehicle calibration documentation and prepare customer reports
• Read and understand measurements in both standard and metric units
• Perform basic R/I procedures to access sensors and control modules
• Act as a subject matter expert, explaining technical diagnoses and repairs to non-mechanical individuals
• Evaluate data to provide comprehensive interpretation of technical information, electrical components, and ADAS
• Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through training to stay current with automotive technology
• Drive customer or company vehicles for delivery, testing, or calibration purposes
• Utilize understanding of repair facilities, body shops, and insurance carriers to build effective working relationships
• Collaborate with other technicians on in-depth diagnostic test plans
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, safety, and environmental rules

Requirements

• 2-5 years of car dealership experience or experience in an aftermarket repair facility as an Automotive Technician
• OEM scan tool and/or aftermarket scan tool experience and knowledge
• Proficient in identifying faults, error messages, and modules
• Strong automotive mechanical and electrical diagnosis, problem-solving, and repair experience
• Proficient understanding of automotive industry acronyms and terminology
• Current, valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
• Basic computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical college graduate in the Automotive Field or equivalent
• Excellent written communication skills
• Company-designated certifications (ASE, I-Car, MECP)
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Work Environment

This role operates inside automotive repair shops that may be cold, hot, noisy, wet, and contain fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenance.

Physical Demands

• Lift up to 75 pounds independently, primarily from knee to shoulder height
• Carry and transport up to 75 pounds up to 20 feet
• Stand for extended periods with frequent stretching, reaching, walking, stooping, pushing, and pulling
• Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity
• Use of safety equipment including face shields, goggles, non-slip shoes, gloves, masks, and other protective garments
• Frequent driving and some typing; visual acuity required to operate motor vehicles

Some travel within the assigned geographic area is expected.
