About the role

The Technician, Facility Services, Food Equipment is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on food equipment, facilities, and fixtures to ensure operational efficiency and safety. This role involves diagnosing issues, utilizing multiple craft skills, and managing maintenance schedules and documentation. The technician supports emergency response efforts, coordinates with contractors, and adheres to regulatory standards to sustain a reliable and safe work environment aligned with organizational goals.

About the team

The Facility Services team ensures reliable operation and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems across Walmart locations. They perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and safety compliance while coordinating with management and service providers to prioritize tasks effectively. The team troubleshoots equipment issues, maintains accurate records and inventory, and supports Walmart’s mission through integrity, clear communication, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on food equipment, facilities, and fixtures following established schedules and guidelines.
  • Inspect, clean, and diagnose equipment issues using blueprints, manuals, and various tools.
  • Conduct major and minor repairs across multiple crafts including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Manage work orders, maintenance logs, and documentation for repairs, parts ordering, and warranty claims.
  • Operate and maintain heavy machinery and company vehicles in compliance with safety standards.
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and participate in on-call rotations to support critical needs.
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure quality and safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on food equipment and facility systems using multiple skills such as plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment issues through inspection, testing, and use of technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Skilled in operating hand and power tools, heavy machinery, and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations including OSHA and EPA compliance requirements.
  • Effective documentation and record-keeping skills for maintenance activities, work orders, and cost tracking.
  • Capability to coordinate with contractors and manage maintenance schedules to ensure quality and safety standards.
  • Commitment to upholding company policies, ethics, and integrity while supporting team collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Option 1: Vocational or technical certification and 2 years’ experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area.
  • License in a related trade in the city and/or state where the job is located.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Pay

The hourly wage range for this position is $26.00 - $51.00. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
