About the role

The Network Technician-Data Center supports the installation of infrastructure including racks, cabinets, grounding, fiber guide, Unistrut, ladder rack, and structured cabling. This role maintains control of inside plant (ISP) activities, reads and understands ISP diagrams/drawings, and keeps accurate field notes. Fieldwork may require overtime, weekends, holidays, off-hours, and travel based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data center cage and overhead ladder rack installation in accordance with industry standards.
  • Read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications; maintain project scope and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Prepare engineering field notes and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and field conditions; recommend changes as needed.
  • Adhere to customer timelines and practice budget-minded behaviors to ensure project profitability.
  • Source high-quality Project Managers and Technicians using personal network of contacts.
  • Serve as a corporate liaison to champion cultural change, encourage a positive work environment, and enhance organizational morale to drive operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities with other employees, departments, and management.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic tools, construction practices, and communication networks.
  • Knowledge of basket tray, overhead conveyance, and cable installation practices (dressing cables, lacing, etc.).
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
  • Knowledge of basic AC and DC power plants.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, makeup, and manufacturer specifications to prevent damage.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturers’ ISP racks, cabinets, ladder rack, fiber guide, and termination panels.
  • Knowledge of cable testing procedures and test equipment.
  • Knowledge of inside plant safety measures and data center security processes.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and make sound decisions based on given information.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of relevant job experience in Electronics, Telecommunications, Construction, or Project Management.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Work in all weather conditions.

Pay

Pay rates and benefit levels are determined by union classifications set by the union.
