Data Center Facilities Technician

About the Role

Perform hands-on operation and maintenance of data center equipment and systems to ensure operational efficiency and uninterrupted service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all data center equipment and identify potential improvements for operational efficiency.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, building automation and control systems, emergency generators, and fire/life/safety systems.
• Control data center environment to meet precise standards for temperature, humidity, and pressure.
• Monitor, manage, and maintain uninterruptable power sources, batteries, and generators.
• Conduct data center inspection rounds to collect readings and maintain logs and documentation.
• Observe outside service providers performing work within the critical environment and report hazardous materials, unsafe work practices, or policy non-compliance.
• Complete periodic maintenance (PM) tasks and document activities.
• Clean and maintain safe computer and critical equipment rooms.
• Climb ladders, walk long distances in large complexes, and safely lift up to 50 pounds.
• Work outdoors, in mechanical rooms, and computer environments.
• Operate company vehicles, radios, or assigned equipment.
• Work 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and additional or irregular hours as required.
• Adhere to corporate and organizational security policies and procedures.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Critical Environment Maintenance Support

• Complete ongoing data center critical infrastructure maintenance and repair to maintain high service uptime standards.
• Employ basic operating knowledge of engineering systems for standard diagnostics and repairs, escalating issues beyond scope.
• Apply knowledge of Oracle processes, procedures, and industry standards to resolve routine issues.
• Identify and share opportunities for system-level enhancements with immediate and related teams.
• Participate in evaluating the suitability of components, processes, or action plans.
• Lead medium-impact projects and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.

Incident Management and Operation Improvement

• Manage data center incidents impacting critical infrastructure and resolve them in a timely manner.
• Communicate incident status to all relevant stakeholders and escalate when needed.
• Collaborate with design, construction, commissioning, facility engineering, and data center operations teams to support integration of new engineering systems.
• Lead operational optimization and efficiency improvement initiatives.
• Ensure alignment with safe working practices.
• Engage in cross-functional post-incident reviews, conduct root cause analyses, and execute Corrective and Preventive Action Plans (CAPAs).
• Follow established emergency operations plans for responding to incidents or abnormal events.

Site Commissioning and Build

• Prepare and review simple technical reports to document findings and support recommendations.
• Establish and ensure adherence to infrastructure maintenance schedules.
• Maintain service documentation and reports, logging all maintenance activities.
• Participate in commissioning activities to ensure alignment with engineering standards and project requirements.

Data Center Operations Management

• Support on-site data center operations related to engineering infrastructure, identifying risks and gaps.
• Participate in communications to ensure operational requirements and specifications are addressed.
• Adhere to developed standards and policies, analyzing documentation and participating in commissioning activities.
• Document critical impacting changes and actively participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings.

Engineering Design, Leadership, and Governance

• Collaborate with senior team members to support design and engineering initiatives.
• Support project team members in delivering specific aspects of data centers by performing moderately complex tasks.
• Contribute to the development of policy documents and propose minor changes for enhancement.
• Engage in the creation and upkeep of best-in-class policies and procedures.
• Prepare technical reports to document findings, communicate progress, and support decision-making.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

• Participate in training programs for newer team members.
• Provide tabletop exercises and scenario-based trainings for newer team members.

Additional Responsibilities

• Provide advanced input for contract administration, including contract generation and review.
• Ensure adequate resources such as spare parts, generator fuel, water, and consumables are available.
• Manage vendor and contractor scheduling and site access.
• Complete moderately complex and/or ambiguous assigned tasks in accordance with project requirements.
• Collaborate with the team to deliver impactful work and support team objectives.
• Follow procedures to identify and resolve moderately complex or non-routine issues.
• Actively seek to build new knowledge and learn new skills.
• Recommend ideas to increase efficiency and effectiveness of processes and workflows.

Requirements

• Possess a valid Driver's License.
• Hold a Universal Refrigeration Certificate.
• Ability to obtain government security clearance or certification (e.g., DOD or VA).
• General Electrical Apprenticeship Certification or General Electrical Training Certificate from multiple issuers.
• Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship Certification or Mechanical Maintenance Training Certificate from multiple issuers.

Pay

Hiring range in USD from $28.41 - $56.83 per hour; from $59,100 - $118,200 per year.
