About the role
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Project Manager. The Technician 1 is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic communication systems, including VOIP, SIP, computer, and networking systems. The role ensures minimal downtime and maximum performance while serving as the onsite SWC representative when the Project Manager is unavailable.
Responsibilities
- Final hookup and programming of electronics equipment for new jobs.
- Prompt response to customer service-related issues.
- Testing and documenting system readings for customers.
- Updating customer files and troubleshooting/repairing electronic components.
- Handling on-call duties on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Training and instructing customers on proper equipment use.
- Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Operating test equipment such as Volt Meter, Ohm Meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Multi-meter, and Impedance Meter.
- Assisting with preventive maintenance of customer equipment.
- Accurate tracking of time sheets, service/installation tickets, inventory items, and progress photographs.
- Ensuring all spare parts, manuals, and keys are safeguarded and signed for at the end of the project.
- Managing and motivating Technicians when serving as the onsite SWC representative.
- Full compliance with company and customer safety programs.
- Other duties as assigned by company management.
Requirements
- A two-year electronics degree or equivalent combination of education and 1+ years of related field experience.
- Knowledge and experience in the procedures, installation, testing, and troubleshooting of equipment/systems.
- Experience with VoIP, telephony, data networks, wireless data, fire alarm, CCTV, sound systems, or nurse call applications preferred.
- Cisco and Microsoft certifications desirable.
- Ability to install projects from engineering documents with minimal assistance.
- Ability to manage small to large projects with little supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read and write at Basic English proficiency and compute basic math functions.
- Ability to read CAD-generated prints, building blueprints, and riser diagrams.
- Solid grasp of basic electronics/electrical theory (formal instruction preferred).
- Proficiency with PCs and aptitude in simple engineering and construction.
- Valid and current driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Electronics, IT, or Computer Programming.
- NSCA CEST Certification or NICET certification.
- RCDD and factory training.
