About the Role
Through cooperation and partnership with the Operations team, the Technical Writer will develop, edit, and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) used to train production employees for optimal performance in daily tasks. The role involves collaborating on onboarding, training, and certification processes for new employees.
Responsibilities
- Collect critical information pertaining to optimal functionality of equipment.
- Generate work instructions in the format of 9-Panel PowerPoint Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in the Continuous Skills Development (CSD) Bridge to understand training priorities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure procedures align with safety, engineering, quality, and food safety guidelines.
- Work directly with the Performance Based Trainer (PBT) to synchronize training plans with SOPs.
- Provide weekly progress updates to stakeholders.
- Review and/or copyedit content developed by other team members.
- Meet with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering or equivalent experience working in manufacturing (preferred).
- Ability to think critically and generate innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills.
- Basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and other food safety/food defense programs (preferred).
- Detail- and process-oriented.
- Very strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to train and communicate in a variety of styles within a culturally diverse workforce.
- Demonstrated humility by asking questions and involving peers.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with common office software.
- Fluency in English; bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Arabic (a plus).
Working Conditions
- Position requires standing, repetitive movement, bending, and twisting, and using hands to handle objects.
- Exposure to sustained noise levels, food allergens, and very hot temperatures.
- Exposure to hazards such as machinery, slippery floors, ladders, and powered industrial vehicles.
- May require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to stand for 85-90% of shift, sometimes up to 10 hours.
- Must be able to work in an environment containing allergens (e.g., gluten, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, milk).
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairways, ladders, and ramps.
- Availability for all shifts, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
