Technical Writer Intern
Main Responsibilities
- Aids in creating and updating work instructions, SOPs, and training documents.
- Works with technicians, engineering, and supervisors to understand processes and document them clearly.
- Organizes and standardizes documents so they are easy to use on the production floor.
- Supports the creation of simple visuals, diagrams, or step-by-step guides.
- Reviews and updates documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness, while identifying gaps or unclear instructions.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Basic to intermediate technical writing experience is acceptable.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn technical processes and translate them into clear, step-by-step instructions.
- Experience working in a lab, shop, or manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
- No formal certifications are required; exposure to documentation control or quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001) is beneficial but not required.
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic ability to create simple visuals or diagrams, flow charts, and step sequences is a plus.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and work with cross-functional teams.
Pay
$24.00 per hour.

The internship is based at Excelitas Technologies' facility in Boulder, Colorado, which specializes in the manufacturing of ultra-precision optical components, optical thin film coatings, and optical sub-assemblies for demanding applications in lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics, and defence.
