About the role
As a Technical Writer and Editor, you will collaborate with program managers, subject matter experts, and leadership to create products that resonate with the traveling public and transportation practitioners. This role will be supported remotely in the DC metro area, with infrequent in-person meetings at the client site in McLean, VA.
Responsibilities
- Researching, writing, and editing technical articles, white papers, reports, flyers, and other material of various lengths (from 5 to 300+ pages) for publication at a professional technical level
- Perform copy editing and document formatting as it relates to 508 within the Microsoft and Google suite of products
- Translate technical terms into plain language
- Research, outline, and develop reports on technical concepts
- Perform QA/QC on a variety of documents and products
- Ensure products meet agency and department branding, logo, and 508-compliance guidance
- Experience working with Adobe Acrobat Pro and CommonLook
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Business Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of related experience with editing, proofing, or copyediting highly technical information
Skills
- Detail-oriented individual who can work comfortably in a demanding, deadline-oriented environment, with very complex processes and tasks with multiple phases
- Expert in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and Google Workspace
- Familiarity with collaboration tools including Teams, Basecamp, Trello, SharePoint, and Smartsheet
- Energetic, self-starter, and resourceful problem solver; can-do attitude and willingness to jump in where needed
- Solid team player with proven ability to manage competing priorities, perspectives, and partnership needs
- Familiarity with responsive design principles and mobile accessibility best practices
- Excellent verbal, oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate accessibility requirements and recommendations to diverse audiences
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex accessibility issues and propose effective solutions
- Commitment to staying current with emerging trends, technologies, and regulations related to digital accessibility
- Flexibility and willingness to accept a change in priorities, as necessary
Pay
$67,063.00 - $114,008.00
