Technical Systems Analyst

Duration: 6-month contract-to-hire (+ extension possible). Location: Newark, NJ (hybrid – 2 consecutive days onsite per month).

About the role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Business Systems Analyst to join an API Development Team. The role involves writing Technical Requirements, Functional Specs, and Swagger Documents for new and enhanced APIs. You will translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications—including Swagger/JSON Interface Specs—for APIs/Web Services running on Amazon AWS.

Responsibilities

• Understand business requirements and convert them into detailed functional and technical specifications, including Swagger/JSON Interface Specs.
• Serve as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for APIs throughout the development lifecycle—Agile and waterfall—from requirements through development, testing, and production.
• Interface with the Software Quality Assurance (SQA) team to review, sign off on, and support API test plans and test cases.
• Support APIs through SQA, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and production deployment.

Requirements

• Hands-on understanding of the healthcare and health insurance industry, including data domains such as Claims, Provider, Benefits, and Membership/Enrollment/Coverage data.
• Experience working on integration projects within a real-time transaction development team.
• Strong data analysis skills, with comfort querying both NoSQL and relational databases.
• Excellent communication skills—able to engage technically with development teams and effectively with project managers and leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of total IT experience.
• At least 2 years of hands-on Java development experience.

Preferred

• Analyst with prior development experience.
