Technical Support - Water

As a Technical Support for Water Permitting and Compliance, you'll play an important role in helping us protect the environment and ensure our water operations meet environmental and regulatory requirements. Working closely with our Water Permitting and Compliance Team, operational colleagues, and external stakeholders, you'll support a wide range of activities that help maintain compliance, manage environmental risks, and uphold our environmental responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with environmental permit applications and renewals, ensuring all required information is accurate and submitted within required timescales.
• Support environmental compliance activities by gathering, analysing, and maintaining environmental data.
• Prepare reports and documentation, and contribute to audits and regulatory reporting.
• Support pollution investigations, collect information and evidence, maintain incident records, and help identify opportunities to reduce environmental risks.
• Turn environmental information into meaningful insights that support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Organised and proactive with an interest in environmental compliance and a passion for protecting the environment.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting requirements, or regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Ability to identify issues, analyse information, and help develop practical solutions.
• Confident communicator with strong written skills, capable of preparing reports and presenting technical information clearly and accurately.
• Comfortable building effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, plan workload effectively, and remain adaptable when responding to changing demands.
• Confident using Microsoft Office and other digital systems with a keen eye for detail when handling data and compliance-related information.

Qualifications

• A degree in an environmental, scientific, or related discipline would be advantageous, although equivalent knowledge and experience will also be considered.
• Experience within the water industry, utilities sector, or a broader environmental role would be beneficial but is not essential.

Pay

£32,215 - £37,900 (depending on experience)

This role is based in Pity Me, Durham. A DBS check will be required prior to employment. NWG supports the rehabilitation of offenders but will not consider candidates with certain unspent convictions to ensure a safe and secure working environment.
