Responsibilities

• Serve as an expert for the division and provide technical guidance on safety and health rules.
• Participate in activities related to development and interpretation of safety and health standards, providing technical assistance to division staff, other agencies, local jurisdictions, and the public.
• Develop and draft rules
• Provide rule interpretations
• Provide technical guidance on the adopted rules
• Write reports and letters
• Provide advice to management and staff on policy issues affecting division operations, industries, and local jurisdictions
• Serve as a primary liaison to several boards and committees, to specific industries and potentially to local government, depending on the assignment

Requirements

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

• A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Environmental Science, Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or Political Science AND four years of professional-level evaluative, analytical, and planning work experience in occupational safety and health, public health, or environmental protection
• OR Any combination of experience and education equivalent to seven years of professional-level evaluative, analytical, and planning work experience in occupational safety and health, public health, or environmental protection

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must have:

• Demonstrated knowledge of Oregon OSHA or federal OSHA rules
• Subject matter experience in safety related topics such as, construction, excavation, working at heights, LOTO, machine guarding
• Demonstrated ability to research and analyze complex topics
• Commitment to maintaining positive working relationships, respectful workplace practices, and supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment
• Demonstrated attention to detail

Pay

The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95% and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.

Schedule

This position is eligible to telework on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required.
