Technical Specialist/Advisor - Data & AI

Job Summary

Provides leadership and consultation in a team-based, customer-oriented environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Plays a critical role in data and AI organization shaping the data foundation to scale AI.
• Requires deep understanding and technical expertise in Cloud and Data Engineering.
• Will require the following skill sets and expertise:
• 5+ years of data engineering background
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Google Cloud (or similar cloud provider), with specific expertise in GCP-native governance tools like Dataplex, Data Catalog, and BigQuery (lineage/security).
• 5+ years of experience building CI/CD pipelines and using Git.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and familiarity with the concept of "Governance as Code."
• Experience working with modern AI assistance tools (Copilot, Gemini) to accelerate development and design.

Data Governance & Architecture

• Strong understanding of modern data governance, including knowledge of Data Privacy & Compliance (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
• Proven experience implementing Data Mesh principles, including Domain-driven design and treating Data-as-a-Product.

Leadership & Delivery

• Prior tech lead experience is mandatory.
• Must be able to lead design sessions with multiple teams and conclude decisions.
• Possess the ability to translate complex technical design into a clear, simple language for non-technical stakeholders.
• Worked in an Agile environment and track deliverables.
• Excellent communication skills with a proven comfort level working alongside vendor partners and geographically distributed teams across different time zones.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Skilled in one or more programming languages (Java / Python) used by FedEx.
• Knowledge and experience with distributed systems, GCP/Azure, client/server technology, and object-oriented (OO) development.
• Knowledge of Dataplex, SDP and other google services is preferred.

Minimum Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field, and/or equivalent formal.
• Five (5) years of qualifying work experience in an information technology or engineering environment.

Domicile Information

• This is a hybrid position located in either Memphis, TN, Plano, TX, or Pittsburgh, PA.
• Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location.
• Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.

Pay Ranges

• Memphis, TN: $7,488.36/mo - $12,355.79/mo.
• Plano, TX: $7,882.48/mo - $13,006.09/mo.
• Pittsburgh, PA: $7,882.48/mo - $13,006.09/mo.

Preferred Qualifications
