Technical Specialist/Advisor - Data & AI

About the role

This role plays a critical part in the data and AI organization, shaping the way the data foundation is built to scale AI. It requires deep understanding and technical expertise in Cloud and Data Engineering, providing leadership and consultation in a team-based, customer-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design sessions with multiple teams and drive decisions
• Translate complex technical designs into clear, simple language for non-technical stakeholders
• Work in an Agile environment and track deliverables
• Collaborate with vendor partners and geographically distributed teams across different time zones

Requirements

• 5+ years of data engineering background
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Google Cloud (or similar cloud provider), with specific expertise in GCP-native governance tools like Dataplex, Data Catalog, and BigQuery (lineage/security)
• 5+ years of experience building CI/CD pipelines and using Git
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and familiarity with the concept of "Governance as Code"
• Experience working with modern AI assistance tools (Copilot, Gemini) to accelerate development and design
• Strong understanding of modern data governance, including knowledge of Data Privacy & Compliance (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
• Proven experience implementing Data Mesh principles, including Domain-driven design and treating Data-as-a-Product
• Prior tech lead experience is mandatory
• Skilled in one or more programming languages (Java / Python) used by FedEx
• Knowledge and experience with distributed systems, GCP/Azure, client/server technology, and object-oriented (OO) development
• Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field, and/or equivalent formal education
• Five (5) years of qualifying work experience in an information technology or engineering environment

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of Dataplex, SDP and other Google services is preferred

• Memphis, TN: $7,488.36/mo - $12,355.79/mo
• Plano, TX: $7,882.48/mo - $13,006.09/mo
• Pittsburgh, PA: $7,882.48/mo - $13,006.09/mo

Schedule

This is a hybrid position located in either Memphis, TN, Plano, TX, or Pittsburgh, PA. Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location. Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.
