About the role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager for a radiocarbon (Carbon-14) and Isotopic Laboratory to provide technical leadership across laboratory operations and service delivery. This role will act as the technical authority for geochemical and isotopic analytical services, with a strong emphasis on radiocarbon, stable isotopes, and gas chromatography (GC) analytical techniques. The successful candidate will lead the operations team on technical issues, improve technical and quality performance, and increase throughput. You will also work closely with the development group to support the validation and scale-up of new services while ensuring robust, compliant, and high-quality routine laboratory operations. Experience in stable isotope analysis (e.g., IRMS, GC-IRMS) is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert in geochemistry and analytical techniques.
- Support the transition of services from R&D to routine operations.
- Partner with laboratory operations leadership to ensure efficient workflows.
- Provide technical oversight to ensure data quality and reliability.
- Troubleshoot complex analytical challenges, particularly GC systems.
- Lead development and optimization of GC methods.
- Support development of isotope techniques (GC-IRMS, EA-IRMS) where applicable.
- Collaborate with product development teams to launch new services.
- Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and quality systems.
- Mentor and train laboratory staff.
- Support Production during high season.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geochemistry, Chemistry, or related field.
- 8–12+ years of experience in analytical laboratories.
- Strong experience with GC instrumentation (GC-FID, GC-MS, etc.).
- Experience in R&D to production method transfer.
- Experience with isotope techniques is a plus.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 environment.
