About the role
We are looking for a Technical Director - Emergency Preparedness to join our team based in the US East Region. As a Technical Director at GHD, you will not only mentor and guide the team but also take the reins in environmental emergencies, collaborating closely with clients and agencies to ensure effective response and resolution.
Responsibilities
- Manage key client and customer relationships.
- Maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty through account teams.
- Contribute to strategic areas of a community of practice.
- Manage a segment of the organization's data collection and analysis activities.
- Develop and write materials for highly visible audiences.
- Manage significant aspects of environmental impact assessments.
- Align risk activities with environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategy for a significant area of responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.
- Evaluate staff capabilities and prioritize development activities.
- Coach and mentor others to support the development of the organization's talent pool.
- Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility.
- Set performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable.
- Develop policies, procedures, and related guidelines for an important area of responsibility.
- Manage and organize logistically complex responses/projects.
- Respond to call-outs and requests for technical assistance during non-routine working hours.
- Secure permissions and consents for development sites.
- Integrate and analyze complex and diverse information sources to develop innovative solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in environmental emergency response and preparedness.
- 7+ years of experience in environmental site assessments and remediation.
- 7+ years of Project Management Experience.
- Track record of revenue growth through Business Development activities.
- Effective communication with other technical professionals, clients, and regulatory officials.
- Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, team player, and leader.
- Strong mentorship and coaching skills to assist with development of junior staff.
- Strong delegation skills to ensure emergency projects are staffed and managed appropriately.
- Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time (mostly local, some regional).
- On-call 24/7/365 and respond to call outs and requests for technical assistance during non-routine working hours.
- Strong organizational skills to assist with day-to-day operations of the business.
- Experience with emergency preparedness, air monitoring, environmental assessment/sampling, ICS, SCAT, regulatory compliance (PHMSA, EPA, DOT).
- Experience with railroad, pipeline, and oil & gas related emergencies.
