About the Role
The Department of Transportation, District Construction Unit is seeking a Technical Assistant to support important transportation projects through detailed work in project records, inspections, and construction documentation. This position offers steady learning opportunities and collaboration with staff to ensure projects run smoothly and comply with standards.
Responsibilities
- Documentation Review: Check project records, work units, and materials for accuracy and compliance.
- Cost Verification: Audit quantities and computed costs to substantiate payments and project reports.
- Field Inspection: Assist with inspections of construction, permit, and utility work on roads and bridges.
- Material Tracking: Collect delivery forms and certifications; conduct basic materials testing.
- Project Support: Help complete progress payments and verify elevations, grades, and material placement.
- Audit Assistance: Review audit findings with staff and confirm adherence to department standards.
Schedule
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Vendor-controlled work schedule; hours may vary.
- Telework: Opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time/seasonally ad-hoc, up to 3 days per week. Requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and an approved location within Pennsylvania. If telework is not feasible, reporting to the headquarters office in Oil City is required. Telework eligibility is subject to change.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of a Class C non-commercial driver’s license.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation.
