Team Lead- Machine Shop 1st shift

Superior Tire & Rubber Corp. seeks a hands-on leader to drive safe, high-quality, and efficient manufacturing in the machine shop.

Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Model and enforce all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
    • Ensure team members attend daily safety meetings and understand safe practices.
    • Immediately correct unsafe behaviors or conditions; escalate serious concerns to Supervisor/HR.
    • Train, coach, and reinforce safety expectations with new and existing employees.
    • Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
    • Maintain 5S standards and sustain a clean, organized, hazard-free work area.
  • Production & Schedule Execution
    • Lead daily shift handoff meetings to communicate priorities, targets, and status.
    • Review production schedules and assign work based on skill, capacity, and equipment availability.
    • Prepare the next day’s production plan and communicate expectations.
    • Ensure team members follow standard work and achieve required cycle times.
    • Monitor workflow, output, downtime, and bottlenecks; respond quickly to maintain flow.
    • Investigate root causes for schedule misses using Man, Material, Machine, Method.
    • Implement corrective action plans and follow through to resolution.
    • Ensure accurate and timely production reporting (counts, scrap, downtime).
  • Quality & Process Control
    • Maintain full understanding of process control requirements, inspection standards, and quality specifications.
    • Immediately correct off-process conditions and coach to prevent recurrence.
    • Conduct regular reviews of process documentation and standard work with team members.
    • Verify gauges, inspection devices, and quality tools are used correctly and remain calibrated.
    • Monitor non-conforming product (NCPs) and conduct face-to-face reviews with involved employees.
    • Lead root-cause analysis for nonconforming product and implement corrective measures.
    • Communicate corrective-action status during shift meetings and Asaichi meetings.
  • Cost Control & Resource Management
    • Monitor raw material consumption, PPE usage, and consumables to avoid waste.
    • Identify discrepancies in material usage or cycle times and resolve with Supervisor.
    • Reinforce cost-conscious behavior and correct wasteful practices through coaching.
    • Support initiatives that reduce scrap, rework, downtime, and other cost drivers.
  • Team Supervision & Employee Development
    • Provide direct supervision, daily oversight, and coaching of production team members.
    • Conduct performance reviews, mid-year evaluations, and ongoing development discussions.
    • Manage coaching-level disciplinary conversations and document concerns with HR.
    • Support team onboarding and ensure adequate training and standard-work adherence.
    • Maintain an accurate skills matrix and identify cross-training needs.
    • Address interpersonal conflicts promptly and appropriately.
    • Promote a positive, accountable, and respectful team environment aligned with company values.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Direct supervision of assigned hourly manufacturing team members.
    • Responsible for coaching, training, assigning work, conducting performance reviews, and issuing coaching-level corrective action.
    • Does not have authority to suspend or terminate without approval.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change with or without notice.
