About the role
The Team Lead / Utility Operator is responsible for leading and developing production employees while ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and efficient workflow throughout the department. This role serves as a technical resource for operators, monitors employee performance and productivity, and helps drive continuous improvement in efficiency and utilization. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong manufacturing experience, forklift experience, and the ability to coach and develop employees while supporting daily production goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead, train, coach, and develop production employees.
- Monitor employee productivity, efficiency, and utilization and provide feedback to improve performance.
- Review and analyze production metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure daily production goals, quality standards, and safety expectations are met.
- Support staffing, workflow planning, and resource allocation.
- Troubleshoot production issues and help implement corrective actions.
- Set up and operate manufacturing equipment, including saws, mills, routers, presses, and other shop equipment.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
- Perform in-process inspections and ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
- Promote a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience required.
- Previous experience leading, coaching, and developing employees required.
- Previous forklift experience required.
- Experience monitoring and reporting employee efficiency, utilization, productivity, and performance metrics.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Experience using measuring tools and inspection equipment.
- Intermediate computer and math skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing production priorities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain high-quality standards.
- Must be willing to work overtime and occasional Saturdays.
Qualifications
- Technical degree preferred.
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, leadership experience, and manufacturing experience will be considered.
Skills
- Operation of manufacturing equipment (e.g., table saw, chop saw, radial arm saw, manual router, disc sander, band/cut-off saw, panel saw, shear, VARTM, autoclave, slitting, press brake).
