About the Role

The Teaching Assistant (TA) for Crisis Intervention provides instructional and experiential support focused on trauma, mental health emergencies, and de-escalation.

This is a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students on special instructional projects, including life-space interviews and anger replacement strategies.
  • Provide the teacher with information about students to assist in developing appropriate learning experiences.
  • Utilize special skills and abilities to assist in instructional programs and behavior management, including managing disruptive, assaultive, and out-of-control student behavior using therapeutic physical intervention strategies as needed.
  • Perform related teaching assistant work as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an educationally related field.
  • Completion of Crisis Intervention training as a Crisis Intervention Worker.
  • Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) as a Crisis Intervention Trainer is desirable.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working directly with students in an educational setting or equivalent.
  • Skills, knowledge, attitude, and confidence to effectively work with students in crisis, manage crisis situations, and respond to both the feelings and outward behavior of students in crisis.

Pay

Salary range: $46,958 – $54,905, in accordance with the BOCES Faculty Agreement Contract, experience, and education.
