About the Role
Join AoPS Academy as a Math Teaching Assistant and support student learning by helping create an engaging, collaborative classroom environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist instructors with company-created curriculum and materials, helping advanced students grasp complex concepts.
- Work one-on-one with students during class activities and provide additional help when needed.
- Help maintain an organized learning environment and assist in managing up to 16 students.
- Assist with grading and providing constructive feedback on student work.
- Connect with students and staff members to encourage their learning journey and academic growth.
- Help create an environment that promotes critical thinking and academic curiosity.
Requirements
- Must be 16 years old or older.
- Possess strong math skills with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts.
- Experience with or interest in working with younger students strongly preferred.
- Exceptional written and spoken communication.
- Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is a plus but not required.
Prior teaching experience or education coursework is not required for this position.
Schedule
Academic Year (2026–2027): Aug. 23, 2026 – May. 23, 2027. Classes are held in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends. This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class. Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.
Summer: Multiple two-week camps between June - August. Camp classes are held Monday-Friday for 3 hours a day, with both morning and afternoon sessions.
Sample Class: Honors Math 1 (Monday 5:00 - 6:45 PM ET). Students develop number sense, learn place value, and are introduced to addition and subtraction through games, puzzles, and hands-on activities.
Location
This is an in-person position at our Vienna Campus (8381 Old Courthouse Rd, Suite 130, Vienna, VA 22182). Candidates must be located in Vienna or the greater DMV area and able to commute to the campus.
Pay
$17.50 - $18.06/hour.
