About the role
This position provides itinerant services to students who are visually impaired or have low vision.
Responsibilities
- Assists pupils to fulfill their capacities for mental, physical, emotional and social growth through individual and group instruction.
- Uses teaching techniques appropriate to stimulate the abilities and interests of visually impaired pupils.
- Utilizes specialized materials, equipment, and instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of visually impaired pupils.
- Works with orientation and mobility specialists to provide comprehensive support to visually impaired pupils.
- Adapts curriculum and instructional methods to accommodate the unique needs of visually impaired pupils.
- Collaborates with other special education teachers and related service providers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university.
- California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired.
- Possess specialized techniques and skills pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in use of various technological devices and optical aids.
- Background and/or certification in orientation and mobility.
- Knowledge of technology for Braille, large print, and talking software.
