About the role

This position provides itinerant services to students who are visually impaired or have low vision.

Responsibilities

  • Assists pupils to fulfill their capacities for mental, physical, emotional and social growth through individual and group instruction.
  • Uses teaching techniques appropriate to stimulate the abilities and interests of visually impaired pupils.
  • Utilizes specialized materials, equipment, and instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of visually impaired pupils.
  • Works with orientation and mobility specialists to provide comprehensive support to visually impaired pupils.
  • Adapts curriculum and instructional methods to accommodate the unique needs of visually impaired pupils.
  • Collaborates with other special education teachers and related service providers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired.
  • Possess specialized techniques and skills pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in use of various technological devices and optical aids.
  • Background and/or certification in orientation and mobility.
  • Knowledge of technology for Braille, large print, and talking software.

Qualifications
