Teacher - Special Education, Educational Resource Classroom (ERC) (Temporay)

Temporary contract position for the 2026-2027 school year only, covering 64 contract days at 1.00 FTE.

About the Role

The Special Education Teacher facilitates student success in the least restrictive environment by addressing academic, interpersonal, social, self-management, and daily living skills. This role ensures access to the general education curriculum and non-disabled peers to the greatest extent possible while implementing district-approved curriculum and documenting student progress.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students with individualized special needs to develop appropriate academic, interpersonal, self-management, and daily living skills (e.g., toileting/hygiene).
• Manage classroom and individual student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Prepare teaching materials and reports, including Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), grades, attendance records, anecdotal records, and progress reports.
• Assess students for eligibility into special education and evaluate their social (behavioral, motor development, communication) and academic needs (developmental level, vocational abilities).
• Collaborate with school personnel and community agencies (e.g., social service agencies, caretakers) to develop and modify programs, plan curriculum, and maximize student outcomes.
• Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides to address individual student needs and ensure an effective special education program.
• Adapt lessons to implement IEP goals and meet the special needs of students.
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians on student progress, expectations, and methods for improvement.
• Facilitate special education meetings for students with or suspected of having disabilities.
• Ensure compliance with required timelines, processes, procedures, documentation, and student record requirements per district policy and state law.
• Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
• Administer medication, first aid, and/or health care as required for student medical needs.
• Assist other personnel and participate in meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in-service training) as needed.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance.

Requirements

• State of Oregon Teaching License with Special Education endorsement.
• Current First Aid Card.
• Teaching Credential for Special Education at the appropriate level of instruction and No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified status.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to motivate students and communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge of and experience working with all special education eligibilities (e.g., learning disabilities, severe disabilities, communication disorders, visual/physical impairments).
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform specialized tasks, and meet scheduling deadlines.
• Effective communication under stressful conditions and ability to model appropriate school behavior.
• Significant physical abilities, including lifting/carrying/transferring immobile students, physical interventions, stooping/crouching, and visual/hearing acuity.

Pay

Salary and stipends will be prorated based on FTE and start/end dates of the position. The 2026-2027 annual salary range is $18,308 - $36,261 (195/196 Day Contract). Initial placement on the salary schedule is based on education and contracted licensed experience.

Eligible for a specialty stipend of $992 for the 2026-2027 school year. Additionally, licensed employees certified as multilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, American Sign Language, or Russian may receive a $665 stipend upon passing a standardized proficiency test.
