About the role
The Teacher: Program Magnet (Apex Arts) position at AACPS is designed to provide instruction in a variety of secondary magnet programs. These programs include Centers for Applied Technology Programs, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programmes, Extended Learning Programmes, Career-related Programme, and Diploma Programmes, among others. The role involves designing and delivering classroom instruction aligned with the Magnet Program pedagogical philosophies.
Responsibilities
- Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and special committees.
- Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.
- Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling, and multi-media teaching aids.
- Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise and confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students.
- Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning.
- Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Participates in regular professional development aligned with Magnet Program (including but not limited to project and problem-based learning).
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years teaching experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of school organization; goals and objectives; curriculum; teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and community.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
