Responsibilities

• Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and special committees.
• Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.
• Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies.
• Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise.
• Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning.
• Monitors and evaluates student performance.
• Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections.
• Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
• Participates in regular professional development aligned with Magnet Program (including but not limited to project and problem-based learning).
• Plays a leadership role in evening, weekend, and summer Magnet events such as parent/family information nights, summer programs, and other co-curricular and career programs.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
• Experience: Two (2) years teaching experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

• Knowledge: Knowledge of school organization; goals and objectives; curriculum; teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
• Skills: Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; Ability to infuse technology into curriculum; Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and community; Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning; Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience; Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
