Teacher (Part-Time) Center for Gifted Youth

Job Description Position Summary: The successful candidate for the position of Teacher in the Center for Gifted Youth (Grades K to 9) will provide learning experiences for children with superior intellectual ability that will deepen and extend their intellectual interests as well as develop the skills of independent learning. Key Responsibilities The Fall and Spring program (K-9) meets for ten Saturdays from 9:00-12:00 p.m. The summer session (Grades 2 - 9) runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the month of July. The candidate will be experienced in at least two of the following areas: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Humanities, the Arts, Law, Social Sciences, Creative Writing, Biology, Earth Science, Physics, Robotics, Coding, so that they can teach more than one class. Education Requirements Master’s degree preferredNew York State Permanent Certification (K-12) in Teacher EducationDual certification a plus Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience Experience preferred in teaching academically talented studentsExcellent reading, writing and communication skillsKnowledge of facilitating curriculum that is project and inquiry based, emphasizing critical thinking with interdisciplinary connectionsTechnology expertise: knowledge of smart board technology and multi-media presentationsConstructivist teaching styleEvidence of originality, initiative, commitment to excellence, and enthusiasm for teachingFlexibility in teaching style, knowledge of cooperative learning Working Conditions Classroom environment. Materials & Equipment The instructor will meet with the Director concerning materials and equipment needed for the class.
