Gifted Teacher - Part Time

About the Role

This part-time position is for a Gifted Teacher within the Harrison County School District. The role focuses on helping students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Responsibilities

• Abide by the standards of conduct as defined by the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics.
• Plan, organize, and conduct a program of instruction based on the Mississippi Standards/Frameworks.
• Assume custody of assigned pupils and ensure their safety and general welfare.
• Participate in pre-school conferences and in-service training programs.
• Perform extra-curricular duties assigned by the principal (e.g., room, hall, playground duties).
• Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
• Keep classes in session during school hours and not dismiss them without prior consent from the principal.
• Be responsible for all school property and equipment entrusted to you.
• Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed for a functional learning atmosphere.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
• Make requests to the School Board through the principal and superintendent.
• Be accountable to the principal and superintendent for teaching duties.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into learning experiences.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and modify instructional methods as needed.
• Provide lesson plans for at least two weeks in advance if terminating employment during the school year.
• Promote a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.
• Notify the principal of anticipated absences and obtain prior approval when required.
• Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
• Avoid doctrinal, sectarian, and denominational teaching.
• Continue professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or conducting research.
• Maintain cordial relationships with parents and keep them informed of student progress.
• Support and enforce all Board of Trustees’ policies, procedures, and rules set by the principal.
• Remain alert to hazards such as obstructed walkways, unsafe equipment, and unauthorized personnel.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Directors.

Requirements

• Certified and licensed in accordance with state law and regulations of the Mississippi Department of Education.
• Licensure and transcripts of credits must be on file in the Superintendent of Education's office.
• Pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.
• Satisfactory employment record.

Equipment and Travel

• Use standard classroom materials and equipment.
• Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Terms of Employment

187 days annually with an application schedule aligned to the district's approved terms.
