Qualifications
- Valid state CTE teaching certification or eligibility to obtain
- Ability to work effectively with high school-aged students
- Current NYS RN License, NYS Teacher Certification (or eligibility for) in Practical Nursing
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (Master's degree preferred)
- Strong clinical skills
- BLS and CPR certified
Experience and Competencies
- Healthcare Expertise: Strong knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, patient care standards, safety protocols (OSHA), and legal compliance (HIPAA)
- Instructional Delivery: Skilled in lesson planning, classroom management, and teaching both academic concepts and hands-on clinical skills to a diverse student body
- Lab & Safety Management: Ability to safely operate, maintain, and supervise students within a simulated healthcare laboratory environment
- Certification Pathways: Familiarity with preparing students for entry-level credentials (e.g., CNA, EMT, Medical Assistant, CPR/First Aid)
- Professionalism & Mentorship: Ability to mentor high school students, communicate effectively with industry partners, and adapt to changing healthcare trends
Duties and Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Instruction: Plan and deliver rigorous lessons aligning with state CTE and health science standards; teach foundational medical theory alongside practical clinical skills
- Lab Oversight: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe healthcare simulation lab; manage medical equipment and supplies inventory
- Certification & Assessment: Track student skills mastery, administer practical check-offs, and prepare students to pass state/national healthcare certification exams
- Career Leadership (HOSA): Serve as the advisor for the HOSA (Future Health Professionals) student chapter, guiding leadership development and competitive events
- Industry Partnership: Coordinate student clinical rotations or internships with local healthcare facilities and maintain an active professional advisory committee
