Teacher - Elementary, Grade 1 (Temporary)

Temporary contract position for the 2026-2027 school year only, covering 61 contract days at 1.00 FTE.

Qualifications

• State of Oregon Teaching License with Elementary Multiple Subjects PK-12 endorsement
• Current First Aid Card

Pay

Salary and stipends will be prorated based on FTE and start/end dates of the position. 2026-2027 annual salary range: $17,450 - $34,561 (192/193 day contract). Initial placement on the salary schedule is based on education and contracted licensed experience.

Eligible for a $635 specialty stipend if certified multilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, American Sign Language, or Russian, contingent upon passing a standardized proficiency test.

About the Role

The Grade 1 Teacher improves student success in academics by implementing District-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, developing lesson plans, providing a safe learning environment, and communicating student progress to parents and administration.

Responsibilities

• Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, music, physical education, and health education using district and school goals
• Instruct students in citizenship, communication skills, literacy, numeracy, and other state-mandated subjects
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for individualized and small group instruction
• Lead and evaluate student work samples
• Administer Oregon Statewide Assessments, ensuring compliance with district policies
• Monitor classroom and playground activities to maintain a safe learning environment
• Coordinate and supervise educational assistants or paraprofessionals
• Evaluate academic and social growth of students and maintain appropriate records
• Develop and use multimedia instructional materials for diverse learning needs
• Establish and maintain classroom behavior standards
• Incorporate new materials and processes into instruction
• Create functional and attractive learning environments (e.g., displays, bulletin boards)
• Foster a positive learning climate and student self-image
• Communicate with parents through various means and hold parent conferences
• Participate in in-service training, curriculum development, and professional meetings
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance
• Supervise and evaluate student teachers
• Select and recommend instructional aids and supplies
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy
• Collaborate with staff to address student health, attitude, and learning challenges
• Participate in faculty committees and meetings
• Sponsor student activities and join professional organizations

Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students
• Understanding of and ability to relate to students from diverse ethnic, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds
• Skills in planning, developing, and implementing curriculum
• Effective communication skills with students, parents, and school personnel
• Knowledge of instructional theory, best practices, and education laws/policies
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, lift/carry/reach, and maintain records
• Significant physical abilities including talking, hearing, visual acuity, and depth perception

Education & Licenses

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Appropriate Oregon teaching license with Highly Qualified Status for assignment
• Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certificates
• Blood-borne pathogen training (as appropriate)
