Temporary Teacher (1st grade)

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.

Responsibilities

• Plan instruction, including providing written lesson plans and preparation aligned with instructional program objectives.
• Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils and evaluate their progress, maintaining accurate records of achievements.
• Implement instructional methods using contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology.
• Utilize a range of instructional materials, participate in developing new teaching techniques, and create bulletin boards and interest areas reflecting pupils' current work.
• Exhibit and apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism initiatives in schools.
• Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom, on school grounds (playgrounds, corridors, lunchrooms), consistent with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
• Ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibit understanding and respect for students.
• Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel following school procedures.
• Communicate with parents or guardians and counsel pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participate in in-service meetings, professional staff meetings, and use provided information and materials.
• May coordinate and attend class field trips and participate in extra-curricular and after-school activities.
• Utilize appropriate community resources.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.

Physical Requirements

• Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
• Ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle and finger objects occasionally.
• Constant talking and hearing, frequent use of near visual acuity, and occasional use of far visual acuity.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39.
