Temporary 1.0 FTE 1st Grade teaching position at Brooklyn Primary for the 2026-2027 school year (August 17, 2026 – June 10, 2027). This is a benefited role; insurance coverage begins September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning.
  • Prepare for classes and keep written evidence of preparation; maintain current lesson plans for substitute teachers.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet State Standards.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish and enforce fair classroom behavior and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, district, and building policy.
  • Regularly assess student accomplishments, providing timely feedback and progress reports.
  • Assist in upholding school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
  • Meet with students and/or parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day as needed.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and curriculum.
  • Provide input into the selection of curriculum, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Assess and differentiate for student learning needs, seeking assistance from District specialists as needed.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for Para Instructional Assistants and volunteers; assist in evaluating their performance.
  • Utilize technology tools to enhance instruction and communication.
  • Fulfill all State and District requirements regarding work samples and assessments.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure appropriate cleaning and disposal of body fluids as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible to hold an Oregon Teaching License with the proper endorsement.
  • ESOL training and endorsement preferred.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to assess and differentiate student learning needs, seeking assistance from District specialists as needed.
  • Ability to observe and record each child’s developmental progress.

Pay

Annual salary range for 1.0 FTE: $62,736 – $90,467 (unrestricted teaching license) or $47,053 (Emergency/Restricted Teaching License). Placement on the salary schedule considers U.S. teaching experience (excluding substitute years) and education.

Schedule

Approximately 175 contract days with a four-day work week. Certified staff report for one Friday per month for meetings and professional development activities.
