Teacher Assistant - Special Education

Location: Buffalo Point Elementary • One-year position (2026–2027 school year) • 4.8 hours per day, 9-month schedule • Salary: $20.98 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026–2027; promotions result in a minimum 5% increase).

About the role

Under the general supervision of the special education teacher, the special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and materials management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
• District in-service training (required after hiring).
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects.
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred.
• Specific skills required depend upon the assignment, the student’s needs and IEP, and the established procedures of the supervising professional.

Additional requirements for Title One schools

• Two years (48 semester hours) of full-time education at an institution of higher education; or
• An associate’s degree; or
• The ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.
