Teacher Assistant - Special Education

About the role
Under the general supervision of the special education teacher, the special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.
This is a classified position in the Essential Elements Unit at Adams Elementary. The position may require lifting, feeding programs, simple sign/signal communication, and medical procedures including, but not limited to, gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, and diapering of adult-size students.
Schedule
5.9 hours per day / 174 days per year
Pay
Salary Grade 8 - $22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027). Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
- District in-service training (required after hiring).
- Basic knowledge of academic subjects.
- Substitution or equivalent experience preferred.
- The specific skills required depend upon the assignment, the student's needs and IEP, and the established procedures of the supervising professional.
- For TITLE ONE SCHOOLS: The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test will be required in the future.
