Teacher Assistant - Special Education
About the role
The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs by assisting the teacher in five areas: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of student IEPs
- Provides instructional support to students
- Maintains classroom management and supervision
- Offers personal support to students
- Supports assessments and evaluations
- Manages and organizes educational materials
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- District in-service training (required after hiring)
- Basic knowledge of academic subjects
- Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
- Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
- For Title One schools: Two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test
Qualifications

Pay
$22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027) [Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase]
Schedule
5.9 hours per day / 174 days per year
Note: The position may require lifting, feeding programs, simple sign/signal communication, medical procedures to include but not limited to gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, and diapering of adult size students.
