Teacher Assistant - Special Education

About the role

The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEP's by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and materials management.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the implementation of student IEP's
• Provides instructional support
• Maintains classroom management and supervision
• Supports students' personal needs
• Assists with assessments and evaluations
• Manages and organizes educational materials

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• District inservice training (required after hiring)
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
• Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
• For Title One Schools: Equivalent of two years full-time education at an institution of higher education or an associate's degree, or passing a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Experience or training in special education
• Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Passing scores on relevant tests if required
