About the role
The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEP's by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and materials management.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of student IEP's
- Provides instructional support
- Maintains classroom management and supervision
- Supports students' personal needs
- Assists with assessments and evaluations
- Manages and organizes educational materials
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- District inservice training (required after hiring)
- Basic knowledge of academic subjects
- Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
- Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
- For Title One Schools: Equivalent of two years full-time education at an institution of higher education or an associate's degree, or passing a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience or training in special education
- Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Passing scores on relevant tests if required
