Teacher Assistant - Special Education

About the role

The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing instructional support to students.
• Supports management and supervision of classroom activities.
• Provides personal support to students as needed.
• Assists with assessment support tasks.
• Maintains and manages educational materials.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• District in-service training (required after hiring).
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects.
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred.
• Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP requirements.
• For Title One schools: Equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education, or an associate's degree, or passing a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, district in-service training, basic knowledge of academic subjects, and substitution or equivalent experience preferred. Specific skills are dependent on the assignment, student needs, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.

$22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027) [Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase]
