About the role
The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.
Responsibilities
- Assists in providing instructional support to students.
- Supports management and supervision of classroom activities.
- Provides personal support to students as needed.
- Assists with assessment support tasks.
- Maintains and manages educational materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- District in-service training (required after hiring).
- Basic knowledge of academic subjects.
- Substitution or equivalent experience preferred.
- Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP requirements.
- For Title One schools: Equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education, or an associate's degree, or passing a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, district in-service training, basic knowledge of academic subjects, and substitution or equivalent experience preferred. Specific skills are dependent on the assignment, student needs, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.
