About the role

The Teacher’s Assistant participates in learning activities with children in a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes child learning, self-awareness, and growing independence. Through a consistent and positive approach, the Teacher’s Assistant helps children control behaviors and encourages the development of appropriate social and interactive skills.

In collaboration with the teaching team, the Teacher’s Assistant works to achieve the program’s educational objectives and plays an active role in communicating with the teacher to provide information and suggestions about each child’s health, behavior, and learning development. The role also involves maintaining effective communication with parents to provide a high level of customer service that supports program goals.

This position assists with the food program, including food preparation, distribution, and record-keeping. Substitute Teacher’s Assistants support the learning program and meet established objectives in a supportive environment. The role supports organizational goals through quality customer service, performance improvement efforts, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Support children’s learning activities in a nurturing environment.
  • Assist in developing children’s social, interactive, and behavioral skills.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to achieve educational objectives.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents about children’s health, behavior, and development.
  • Assist with the food program, including preparation, distribution, and record-keeping.
  • Provide quality customer service and support program goals.
  • Participate in performance improvement and teamwork efforts.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to body fluids, bloodborne pathogens, and contagious childhood diseases within the ChildCare Center. This position requires standing, sitting on the floor, crouching, kneeling, running, and walking for a majority of the time, as well as the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree, completion of at least 60 college credits, or a passing score on the State Paraprofessional Test.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both oral and written.
  • Some child development courses or prior work experience in a childcare setting preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Early Childhood Administrator or the Director and Assistant Director.
