TDCJ - Chaplain I, II
About the role
This position is assigned to the Gib Lewis unit and reports directly to the Region I Regional Chaplain. Performs routine ministerial clergy work. Work involves planning and conducting religious services and education classes; providing pastoral care and counseling to inmates and inmate families; and training others. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED
- Four years full-time, wage-earning or wage-equivalent ministry experience
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with basic Microsoft platforms
- Good verbal communication skills and a good work ethic
- Skilled in problem-solving techniques
Qualifications
- Ministerial experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field
- 2080 volunteer hours as a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Certified Volunteer Chaplaincy Assistant (CVCA), with supporting documentation
- Written ecclesiastical endorsement by the applicable religious authority (Required prior to job offering)
- Knowledge of religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public
- Skills in individual and group counseling
- Skills to organize, assign, and review the work of others
Travel and Work Schedule
Travel 25% - Position may spend 15 nights away per month
Additional Information
