About the role

This position reports to the Hutchins unit daily, with potential to assist and/or provide coverage at other units based on need. Day-to-day functions include providing reentry case management, conducting a comprehensive assessment of risk and needs, building reentry plans tailored to the individual inmates’ goals and circumstances, coordinating services such as ordering replacement social security cards, certified birth records, state of Texas identification cards, and connecting individuals to public benefits as appropriate, release planning, and securing employment. The Reentry Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining records for inmates, documenting services, and preparing summary reports. Responsibilities also include coordinating release by working with families and division support staff, reviewing and signing parole certificates with the population, securing electronic monitors, providing bus tickets and essential identification documents, and ensuring release funds, medications, and appropriate clothing are provided. This position is essential; work schedules are tailored to division needs.

Requirements

  • 4 years of work experience or a bachelor’s degree

Qualifications

  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and moving pieces at the same time
  • Clear and professional communicator with staff, leadership, participants, and outside partners
  • Accountable and able to maintain positive professional working relationships
  • Understands the importance of accurate documentation and timely follow-through
  • Experience in computer operations, including email, database entry, and use of common software applications
  • Works well as part of a team and willing to step in where needed to keep the program moving
  • Interested in rehabilitation, reentry, career readiness, and helping individuals prepare for successful transition

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in case management, rehabilitation, reentry, workforce development, education, or correctional programming
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications and effective use of a computer for documentation, data management, and communication
  • Ability to notice gaps, develop solutions, and follow those solutions through to completion
  • Skill in building productive relationships with unit staff, program partners, employers, and community organizations
  • Brings ideas to the table and is interested in program development and meaningful reentry work

Training and certification

Successful candidates must become End-User certified in the Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) to be completed during a weeklong off-site training course in Austin or Huntsville within the first 60 days of employment.

Travel

Position may spend 15 nights away per month; travel is approximately 25%.
