TCEQ - Program Supervisor VI (TCEQ Employees only)

About the role

Join TCEQ’s Office of Air and contribute to protecting and restoring Texas air quality as a Program Supervisor in the Air Monitoring Division. This position oversees staff and programs that ensure timely, accurate air-monitoring work products.

Responsibilities

• Assigns, distributes, and oversees the work of staff; plans and coordinates activities of all Air Monitoring programs.
• Oversees day-to-day activities of unit employees responsible for air monitoring networks and the construction, maintenance, and deployment of technical monitoring systems.
• Coordinates team activities with other work units.
• Assists in maintaining the section’s budget.
• Advises and provides feedback to the Manager regarding program activities and significant issues.
• Performs human resource management functions: maintains functional job descriptions and performance plans, conducts performance appraisals, and supports staff development.
• Researches and reviews information regarding technical monitoring network documents.
• Oversees and/or develops technical policy and guidance documents.
• Provides technical assistance and expertise regarding Air Monitoring programs to other divisions, regional staff, and the regulated community.
• Participates in meetings and discussions with other agency divisions and external customers such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, trade organizations, and regulated entities.
• Represents the Division in meetings and public functions to provide information and promote coordination with internal and external customers.
• Attends professional development and training events.
• Participates in safety training as required by the Monitoring Safety Officer.

Requirements

• Experience working with air monitoring equipment and/or air monitoring system networks.
• Experience supervising staff, including development of team goals, hiring process, preparing/drafting job descriptions and performance plans, and conducting performance reviews.
• Experience planning and coordinating activities designed for staff professional development.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment or experience in the administration of a program relevant to assignment.

Employees in this classification may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure (e.g., communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility). Maintaining the security or integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of employment.

Schedule

Standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Individual and work-group schedules are determined by the TCEQ Air Monitoring Division.
