Tax Senior Manager, International Tax Services
About the role
An International Tax Senior Manager advises clients on tax implications, recommends actions, and complies with tax regulations. They also market, network, and develop business within their area of expertise, acting as a resource for international tax issues. This role involves developing and implementing international tax consulting ideas, resolving complex issues, communicating with clients, and managing client engagements.
Responsibilities
- Tax Consulting: Develops, recommends, and implements international tax consulting ideas; ensures compliance with firm policy on Written Tax Advice (WTA); identifies and resolves complex taxation issues; communicates complex technical matters to clients.
- Tax Specialization: Continuously develops in-depth understanding of international tax issues; acts as an industry expert; manages international tax services; identifies opportunities for tax alerts.
- Marketing and Business Development: Exhibits thought leadership; builds effective marketing plans; executes marketing strategies; collaborates with partners and managers.
- Tax Compliance: Manages client engagements; conducts detailed reviews of international tax aspects; identifies and addresses complex issues; leverages compliance role to identify additional issues and opportunities.
- Tax Controversy: Represents clients before U.S. tax authorities; applies standards, firm policies, and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements; reviews international tax provisions; coordinates with BDO colleagues in non-U.S. jurisdictions.
- Other duties as required: Supervises tax professionals; provides performance feedback and evaluations; acts as mentor to tax professionals.
Requirements
Eight (8) or more years of prior experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services, or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree program. Experience in international tax is required. Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis is required. CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) is required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, required; degree with a focus in Accounting, preferred.
- J.D., LLM, and/or MST/MBT, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior analytical and legal and tax research skills, including building models and analysis of financial and numerical data.
- Strong organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details.
- Effective multi-tasking and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel.
- Advanced knowledge of sources of relevant information utilized in tax filings as well as the most widely-used filing forms and awareness of other less widely used tax forms.
- Advanced understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation and law.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of general calculations and cause / effect for taxable conditions on clients and the potential tax issues.
- Strong legal writing background and familiarity with the IRAC method of analysis.
- Individual salaries are determined based on numerous factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
