About the role

An International Tax Senior Manager advises clients on tax implications, recommends actions, and complies with tax regulations. This role involves marketing, business development, and leading international tax services.

Responsibilities

  • Tax Consulting: Develops and implements international tax consulting ideas, ensures compliance with firm policy for Written Tax Advice, resolves complex issues, communicates with clients, and prepares WTA.
  • Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of international tax, acts as an expert, manages international tax services, and identifies tax opportunities.
  • Marketing and Business Development: Exhibits thought leadership, builds marketing plans, and collaborates with partners and managers to develop strategies.
  • Tax Compliance: Manages client engagements, reviews international tax aspects, identifies complex issues, and represents clients before tax authorities.
  • Tax Controversy: Manages tax disputes, applies standards, and reviews tax provisions, coordinating with BDO colleagues in non-U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Other duties as required: Supervises tax professionals, provides performance feedback, and mentors team members.

Requirements

Eight (8) or more years of prior experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services, or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree program. Experience in international tax, experience supervising tax professionals, CPA certification, attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or enrolled agent (or equivalent).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred with a focus in Accounting, and J.D., LLM, or MST/MBT, preferred.
  • Experience in international tax, experience supervising tax professionals, CPA certification, attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or enrolled agent (or equivalent).
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced knowledge of sources of relevant information utilized in tax filings, and awareness of less widely used tax forms.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to meet project deadlines, and proven ability to manage a team of tax professionals.
  • Executive presence, ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements, and proven ability to interact with professionals at all levels.

  • Superior analytical and legal and tax research skills, including building models and analysis of financial and numerical data.
  • Strong organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details.
  • Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of effectively managing a team of tax professionals and delegating work assignments.
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel.
  • Advanced knowledge of sources of relevant information utilized in tax filings as well as the most widely-used filing forms and awareness of other less widely used tax forms.
  • Advanced understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation and law.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of general calculations and cause / effect for taxable conditions on clients and the potential tax issues.
  • Strong legal writing background and familiarity with the IRAC method of analysis.
