About the role

The Core Tax Services Senior Manager advises clients on tax implications, evaluates alternative actions, and acts as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role involves applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizing and communicating risks, and making decisions regarding tax filings and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens. Manages self and client service teams to comply with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
  • Research: Identifies research needs, frames issues, and reports analyses. Identifies complex issues for research and provides methodology. Trains on research skills and helps frame issues for analysis.
  • Tax Accruals: Applies ASC 740, FAS 109, and FIN 48 policies. Reviews tax provisions and explains income tax provisions and uncertain tax positions. Reviews prepared workpapers.
  • Tax Consulting: Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes. Works with STS specialists and monitors implementation of work plans. Manages inquiries from federal and state agencies.
  • Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation. Organizes and conducts external CPE training sessions. Trains and mentors on specialization areas.
  • Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved tax strategies. Researches and implements strategies, including experimenting with new ideas. Leads marketing campaigns if applicable.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates and senior associates. Reviews work, provides feedback, trains on software tools, and manages workload.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or Master's in Accountancy or Taxation.
  • Eight or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or equivalent).
  • Software proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and tax research databases/compliance process software.
