Tax Senior Manager, Core Tax Services
About the role
The Core Tax Services Senior Manager advises clients on tax implications, evaluates alternative actions, identifies compliance methods, and acts as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role also involves marketing, networking, and business development within an area of specialization, while maintaining client relationships and handling complex inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities, minimizes tax and reporting burdens, and adheres to Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Research: Identifies research needs, frames issues for analysis, and reports findings. Trains and mentors on research skills.
- Tax Accruals: Applies ASC 740 and Firm policies to correct and proactively apply tax accruals, reviews tax provisions, and explains income tax components and uncertain tax positions.
- Tax Consulting: Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes, while managing risk. Monitors implementation of work plans and manages inquiries from federal and state agencies.
- Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation, organizes and conducts external CPE training sessions, and trains and mentors on specialization areas.
- Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved tax strategies, experiments with promising ideas, and leads marketing campaigns if applicable.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates and senior associates, reviews work, provides feedback, and manages workload.
Requirements
Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience required. Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred. Prior supervisory experience required. CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) required. Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and tax research databases and compliance process software. Superior verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, and decision-making abilities. Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for complex issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a Master's in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) required.
- Experience in tax compliance, research, tax accruals, consulting, specialization, strategy development, supervision, and supervisory responsibilities.
