About the role

The Senior Tax Manager provides tax and consulting services to business clients with pass through entities and their business owners. This includes individuals, estates, trusts, partnerships, S-corps, and private foundations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tax planning, preparation, and research for pass through entities and individual returns, including estates, trusts, and charitable entities.
  • Manages client engagements, supervises and reviews work of team staff members, and works closely with clients, internal managers, and partners.
  • Contributes to client satisfaction by providing timely services and work product.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of tax concepts and actively pursues increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments.
  • Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and ensures compliance with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
  • Conducts top-level review of tax returns and resolves all tax issues with clients; involves specialists where appropriate.
  • Plans and reviews the tax process, budgets and staffs, monitors engagement process, and manages client relationships/expectations.
  • Conducts research to identify when research is needed and clearly reports the analysis.
  • Develops and introduces new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, such as reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
  • Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action.
  • Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects and offers input on how to improve processes and methods.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, specifically with working on individual, estate, trust, partnership, S-corporation, and private foundation tax/consulting clients.
  • Prior supervisory experience, required.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.

Benefits

Individual salaries are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Please refer to the provided ranges for each location.

Pay

California Range: $146,000 - $200,000
Colorado Range: $120,000 - $185,000
Illinois Range: $140,000 - $190,000
Maryland Range: $150,000 - $180,000
Massachusetts Range: $150,000 - $206,000
Minnesota Range: $130,000 - $190,000
New Jersey Range: $155,000 - $200,000
Ohio Range: $125,000 - $200,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $180,000 - $225,000
Washington Range: $150,000 - $200,000
Washington DC Range: $162,000 - $190,000
