About the role
The Senior Tax Manager provides tax and consulting services to business clients with pass through entities and their business owners. This includes individuals, estates, trusts, partnerships, S-corps, and private foundations.
Responsibilities
- Performs tax planning, preparation, and research for pass through entities and individual returns.
- Manages client engagements, supervises and reviews work of team staff members, and works closely with clients, internal managers, and partners.
- Contributes to client satisfaction by providing timely services and work product.
- Demonstrates an understanding of tax concepts and actively pursues increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments.
- Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and ensures compliance with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Conducts top-level review of tax returns and resolves all tax issues with clients; involves specialists where appropriate.
- Plans and reviews the tax process, budgets and staffs, monitors engagement process, and manages client relationships/expectations.
- Conducts research to identify when research is needed and clearly reports the analysis.
- Develops and introduces new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, such as reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
- Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action.
- Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects and offers input on improving processes and methods.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, specifically with working on individual, estate, trust, partnership, S-corporation, and private foundation tax/consulting clients.
- Prior supervisory experience, required.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.

- Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals.
- Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships.
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients.
